Removing & Preventing Lawn Grubs and Weeds: A Guide to Using Oxafert and Acelepryn GR

Treatment

At Greener Lawn, we’re passionate about spring! It’s the time of year when your garden and lawn burst into vibrant growth. However, it’s also when warm-season weeds and turf pests become active. In this blog, we’ll guide you on how to prevent lawn grubs and weeds from invading your green space.

Removing & Preventing Lawn Grubs and Weeds: A Guide to Using Oxafert and Acelepryn GR

Preventing Turf Weeds

To tackle annual summer and winter grass weeds, use pre-emergent herbicides like 3kg Oxafert and 20kg Oxafert Plus. These herbicides work by targeting weed seedlings during their germination phase, stopping them before they can appear on your lawn. Additionally, both Oxafert and Oxafert Plus include a fertiliser component that nourishes your lawn and keeps it healthy. Oxafert Plus also features an insecticide component for added protection.

For best results, apply Oxafert and Oxafert Plus just before weed seedlings are set to germinate. To combat summer weeds like Summer Grass and Crowsfoot, apply in spring before temperatures rise. For winter weeds like Winter Grass, apply in autumn as temperatures cool. The precise timing will depend on your local climate and current weather conditions.

Pre-emergent herbicides create a barrier at the soil level that affects the germination of new seedlings. This barrier doesn’t kill existing weeds but prevents new ones from emerging. As temperatures rise and weed seeds become active, Oxafert stops them before they grow.

– Summer Grass and Crowsfoot Weeds: Use 3kg of Oxafert per 100m².

– Winter Grass and Creeping Oxalis Weeds: Use 4kg of Oxafert per 100m².

Spread the granules evenly over dry foliage and water in with at least 10mm of water after application.

Preventing Lawn Grubs

Grub Guard Ultimate, Acelepryn GR, and Acelepryn Liquid offer effective and environmentally friendly control of a variety of insects while being safe for non-target organisms like bees and earthworms. Acelepryn works by targeting a specific muscle receptor found in harmful insects, making it one of the safest insecticides available.

Acelepryn controls pests such as Black Beetle, Stem Weevil, Cut Worm, and Army Worm. It’s both curative and preventative, offering year-round protection when applied at six-month intervals. We recommend applying Acelepryn in September/October and again in March/April.

– For Lawn Curl Grub, Argentine Stem Weevil larvae, and Billbug larvae: Apply 750g – 1.5kg of Grub Guard Ultimate per 100m². Use a calibrated spreader for even distribution, then lightly water in immediately.

– For Caterpillars (Lawn Armyworm, Black Cutworm, Sod Webworm): Apply 750g of Grub Guard Ultimate per 100m². Delay mowing and watering for 24 hours after application, then water the granules in.

– For Beetle Larvae (African Black Beetle, Argentine Scarab, Argentine Stem Weevil, Billbug larvae): Apply 1-2kg of Acelepryn GR per 100m². Use a calibrated spreader or apply by hand, then water in with at least 3mm of irrigation.

– For Caterpillars: Apply 1kg of Acelepryn GR per 100m². Use a calibrated spreader or apply by hand, then delay mowing and watering for 24 hours before watering in.

– Acelepryn Liquid: For Beetle larvae and Caterpillars, apply using a garden sprayer or watering can. For a garden sprayer, use 8-15 mL per 5-10 L of water per 100m². For a watering can, mix 1.5 mL in 9 L of water for 10m². Lightly water in immediately after application. Delay watering or mowing for 24 hours for optimal control.

With these tips, you’ll be well-equipped to prevent lawn grubs and weeds, ensuring your lawn stays lush and healthy throughout the season.
